Hahaha… I love this bus! It’s actually a 17-year old Suzuki van underneath the cute Japanese bodykit. Looks like a toy car on the road. Too bad it didn’t drive very well. I guess it’s still a Suzuki afterall. Nice to see such cars on Singapore’s streets – will certainly put many smiles on people’s faces.

Eye lids

The other accessory I bought at Xin Zhong. Last time, I got the wrong ones (meant for the 70s models) – the result would have been a “raised” eye lid. Good thing I could exchange. Now, finally, they’ve got stock of the 60s eye lids.

Got them fixed at OVP for S$10. Thomas did it himself too.

More “Herbie” looking than ever.

Thomas’ assistant was also very nice. He helped me tuned up the car a bit after I gave him some feedback about my fuel consumption. Great guys at OVP!!

New Shoes

I couldn’t wait to put up my new white wall tire inserts. So I skipped lunch and went out in search of a shop that will help me put ‘em on. Believe it or not, the first shop I went to refused to do the job. Disappointed, I went in search of another. Thank God the second shop did it, and for a reasonable fee too (S$20 for the deal). Nice!!

The tires are taken off and deflated before the inserts are put in place.

Check out the new look. I love it!

White Wall Tire Inserts

I’ve always wanted a set of white walls, but they’re just too expensive and difficult to get in Singapore. I explored other alternatives, such as tire paint and inserts, and finally settled on inserts after many months of procrastination.

Bought them yesterday from Xinzhong Auto Parts along Lavender Street for S$90 (set of 4s). These are newly imported ones, according to the shop owner (I always call him Uncle) and are supposed to be whiter and softer.

I’ve read about the some of the associated problems with these inserts (eg. squeaky sounds, yellowing, cutting into the side walls, not lasting very long and tearing when curbed). But vanity prevails over logic at the end of the day.

Let me put them on and see what happens. Can’t wait…
